Announcing the opening of our new boutique in San Francisco!
Situated on the corner of Grant Avenue and Maiden Lane, we are happy to join
the established shopping area that houses many of San Francisco’s most
impressive luxury retail addresses. The boutique offers a large array of new
and iconic sunglasses and optical styles from Oliver Peoples.
“Being a California-rooted brand, San Francisco has always been a target city for us to open an
Oliver Peoples Boutique,” says David Schulte, CEO “It’s really been a matter of finding the right location. We have had a
strong presence here for over 25 years via our great wholesale partners, and to
now complement this business with a flagship store is extremely exciting.
So many elements of San Francisco inspire us – its beauty, art scene,
bohemian yet sophisticated aesthetic, entrepreneurs, music, etc.; the list goes
on. We can’t wait to be a part of it and hope to add to what makes this city
Together with Larry Leight, Oliver Peoples Founder
and Creative Director, Los Angeles-based design-build practiceMarmol Radzinerfashioned
a distinctive architectural identity for the new boutique that brought to life Leight’s vision for the store.
“Infusing the Oliver Peoples
boutique with the local surroundings, while maintaining the company’s existing
visual identity was an exciting approach for us,” says Ron Radziner, Marmol
Radziner design principal. “By
referencing the San Francisco Bay’s rugged shoreline features, we set the stage
for the meticulously designed and crafted Oliver Peoples eyewear."
The store design draws inspiration from objects found on the
beach, ships coasting in the bay, grey hues of the sun-bleached terrain, and striking
colors of the coastal sunset. The center of the 800 sq. foot space holds a
live-edge, wood-slab table, reminiscent of logs washed ashore. Multi-length
planks of live-edge wood, supported by slender geometric metal bases, provide a
refined display for the eyewear. The weathered look of the consultation tables
artistically contrasts the custom bronze-colored lighting fixtures that add
polish and definition to the setting. An eye-catching, woven-wood wall detail evokes
the construction of a ship’s hull, while creating a flow to direct the eye
along the lit shelves of sunglasses and optical frames. The boutique’s design
maximizes the functionality of the location, encourages customer engagement, and
reinforces the integrity and California heritage of the Oliver Peoples brand.
