OLIVER PEOPLES EYEWEAR AND KRIS VAN ASSCHE COLLABORATION SUNGLASS DEBUTS ON RUNWAY

January 2008-- Oliver Peoples, the Los Angeles based eyewear brand, has joined forces with highly praised European designer Kris Van Assche, to create a limited edition sunglass that debuted on the runway of his new menswear collection. As both brands emphasize luxury and an appeal to classic and timeless pieces, the collaboration was sure to be winning partnership.

Appointed as the Artistic Director for Dior Homme this past year, as well as debuting the seventh season of his own line, Van Assche has secured his place as an emerging force in the fashion scene. The collaboration with Oliver Peoples was his first venture into the eyewear market. Van Assche, who takes pride in brands that represent luxury, quality and a great sense of creativity, was honored at the invitation to work with Oliver Peoples Creative Director, Larry Leight, and vice versa.

“Kris is one of the young designers that I truly admire in fashion today,” say Leight. “After my 20 years in the eyewear business, working with some of the top designers this century, his passion for design, and the fresh perspective he brings to the table, is unique and exciting.”

In his mainline, Van Assche’s creations echo masculine sophistication without pretentious attitude, and this collaboration sunglass directly reflects that. The style implements his sporty approach with strong attention to detail. It applies masculine lines and interchangeable lenses to create a style with an edgy feel. “Being able to change the color of the lens makes these glasses a product of identity rather than of fashion,” Van Assche explains.

Interestingly, in most vintage styles when an interchangeable lens is used, the frame is often metal, as the technical aspects are easier to achieve. This plastic style utilizes several unique components, which are also incorporated into the design - as seen at the bridge - to make it work. There is metal inlay visible from the top view with the KVA logo discreetly engraved. The style comes with a custom case specially designed to hold and protect the extra lenses.

The limited edition style will be retailing at $500 and available for purchase at selected retailers in Summer 2008.
