Beginning in 1993, the creation of Oliver Peoples CD’s has been an ongoing pursuit to discover fresh and eclectic sounds from around the world that capture the essence of the brand and reflects the culture. The stylish collections, produced in-house from the Oliver Peoples Malibu boutique, in coordination with partners, Quango Music Group, spotlight the extraordinary talents of creative artists from across the globe and support the brand’s lifestyle philosophy: “Music and Style, Sound and Vision… songs from around the globe to keep your life in focus.”
“Our creative process starts by compiling songs that deeply resonate within us and reflect our brand's musical vibe,” says Allen Voskanian, the Brand’s Music Director. “One important criterion in the music selection is our intention for it to be played in our stores hence each one of our compilations is an extension of the retail experience that extends beyond the store… to your car, dinner party, poolside, or wherever music is enjoyed.”
OP CD 9 includes two exclusive remixes: ‘Into the Night’ by Azari and III (Nicolas Jaar Remix), originally released at the end of 2010, and ‘I Tried So Hard’ by Nightworks (Extended Mix).
‘Into the Night’ has been circulating on the web but is not currently available on iTunes and its inclusion on OP 9 could very well be the first time being released on CD format. The closing track on the CD is ‘I Tried So Hard’ by Nightworks (Extended Mix), which punctuates the Oliver Peoples laidback vibe with its subtle piano cords and sultry baseline. “It is the perfect finish, and caps the musical arc of the sequence that we take so much pride in getting just right,” says Voskanian.
‘Henny & Gingerale’ by Mayer Hawthorne, is another notable track. The song was not featured on his latest album "How Do You Do," but was included on the digital release. This may be its first appearance on CD and is a fun leg shaker reminiscent of Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give it Up" with a fresh witty twist.
Because Malibu is the epicenter of the Oliver Peoples music division, the emphasis on the newest compilation for the 25th year anniversary was to capture the brand’s vision of the fun Malibu summer vibe with contemporary and exclusive songs. It's an eclectic and carefully sequenced mix from chilled out electronica by Ornette and Nightworks, to tasty soul by Mayer Hawthorne and Poolside, to reggae from Courtney John and Sola Rosa.
