Malibu, Forever

Malibu, Forever

The Oliver Peoples Fall/Winter collection draws inspiration from California modernism, echoing the purposeful minimalism and spirit of reinvention embodied by Craig Ellwood’s Malibu Hunt House. Built in 1957, this sunlit architectural landmark sets the scene for the season’s campaign.

Without formal training but driven by the promise of Hollywood, Craig Ellwood (née Nelson Burke) left Texas to reinvent himself as an LA architect. There, he crafted both a persona and a visionary body of work. Ellwood was instrumental in shaping a distinctive architectural style that continues to influence design today. For "Malibu Forever", photographer Matthew Brookes turns to Ellwood’s Hunt House to tell the next chapter of the Oliver Peoples story—featuring bold acetate designs, striking metal silhouettes, and delicate custom filigree. The property’s timeless architectural details complement the sculptural lines of the frames.

Bathed in Malibu’s golden hour light, the vintage styling nods to the unbuttoned glamour of midcentury Malibu, when Old Hollywood glitterati embraced a more laid-back elegance in search of reinvention, far from the city’s glare. It’s this very spirit, so intrinsic to Malibu, with its signature warm light, remote beaches, and artist community, that infused the campaign with its sense of transformative possibility. At the Hunt House, these qualities come to life in both the structure’s geometric architectural features and warm coastal glow, where, reflected through OP, the ocean reshapes the shoreline with every swell, a timeless promise of nature’s reinvention.
